Some low-income, elderly homebound and disabled Scottsdale residents find it difficult or impossible to take a necessary trip to the grocery store each week. In conjunction with the Granite Reef Senior Center, we have created the Brown Bag Program, which provides groceries for low-income seniors in Scottsdale.
Brown Bag Program for Low-Income Seniors
The Brown Bag Program is hosted through the Granite Reef Senior Center at 1700 N. Granite Reef Rd in Scottsdale. Every Thursday beginning at 6 am, generous volunteers gather at Granite Reef to assemble a bag of groceries to deliver to homebound, disabled, and low-income seniors in Scottsdale.
Each bag of groceries is filled with foods such as canned and non-perishable foods, drinks such as tea, coffee, and juice as well as bakery items. This invaluable Brown Bag Program provides those that would not be able to otherwise enjoy a fulfilling week of meals.
How You Can Help Scottsdale Seniors
Volunteering to help Scottsdale seniors is a wonderful way to give back to our community while brightening someone’s day!
There are two avenues to assisting the Granite Reef Senior Center in the Brown Bag Program. Any donation, whether physically or financially, is always appreciated and can make the difference in a senior’s day.
First, volunteers are always in need to be part of this special program to assemble and deliver groceries for low-income seniors in Scottsdale. It takes a group effort to help manage food deliveries, prepare the bags of groceries, and to deliver them to those that qualify for the Brown Bag Program.
Also, food and monetary donations are always welcomed and are tax-deductible. SCP is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, so donations are tax-deductible. We welcome individual, group, and corporate sponsors who are interested in making the Brown Bag Program a success!
